Merlin II gives big energy savings while also protecting electronics and reducing stress on components.
Merlin II: mini smart speed controller circuit board
Frigoboat's Merlin II is a small circuit board that plugs onto the controller of a Danfoss/Secop BD35 or BD50 air-cooled or keel-cooled compressor to control compressor speed automatically, to save energy, protect system's electronics, and reduce stress on various components.
- Green light blinks indicating compressor speed.
- Red light blinks 1 to 5 times if compressor stops for a fault reason, directing you to a solution.
Installation and Operation Instructions here.
NOTE: NON-RETURNABLE
Not for use on water-cooled compressors -W35F or W50F
Why Vary The Compressor Speed? The Danfoss compressors that Frigoboat uses have variable speed capability. The slower the compressor runs, the more efficient it is, and the faster it runs the more cooling power it delivers. So ideally the compressor should run at the fastest speed initially to cool the box down and then run as slow as possible to maintain temperatures. There should be a provision for the speed to be adjusted manually or automatically when warm goods are put in the box and/or when external conditions change. In addition, the highest load on the electronics (and highest risk of failure) happens during the first few minutes of start-up with the compressor running at maximum speed. As a safeguard, the compressor should be started in a slower speed, where there is less strain on the electronics, and then gradually increased to maximum |
